✨ Nothing changes if nothing changes

Enrollment for Pattern Camp is closing this Friday, August 2nd!

Hey Reader –

Happy Tuesday! I hope you're having an awesome week so far. :)

My kids are in camp this week and I'm spending my days in the studio putting the final finishing touches on my Pattern Camp course that's happening this coming weekend, August 3 & 4.

I'm so dang excited about this course! Watching students go from frustrated to confident using Adobe Illustrator, from patterns being a mystery to being able to design them on their own, and all in just TWO DAYS, is just the most fun thing ever.

The best part is witnessing the students who didn't think it was possible for them to learn these skills so quickly, surprise and delight themselves when they realize they're capable of so much more than they thought possible.

(Maybe this is you?!)

"I thought of computer design as an impediment that I couldn't overcome. You have opened doors and turned on the lights for me!" – Katia B

Sometimes it can be really scary and difficult to try something new, to make a new choice, or to learn a new skill that seems beyond your reach or your capabilities. Thoughts like these creep in and try to keep us safe:

  • "What if I disappoint myself again by not following through?"
  • "What if I'm not good enough?"
  • "What if I'm too old?"
  • "What if everyone is better than me?"
  • "What if I waste my money? And my time?"

(Ask me how I know!)

But what I know, is that these excuses are just trying to keep you safe, but instead they're just keeping you stuck and unsatisfied.

After watching countless students surprise themselves in Pattern Camp – and from teaching myself how to design patterns and turn it into a successful creative career, starting from zero – what I know is that anything is possible. You DO have what it takes. But not if you don't take the scary step into the unknown.

One of my favorite phrases in the world is nothing changes if nothing changes.

Playing it safe is not where the magic happens. The same choices will lead you to the same feelings and the same experiences. Choosing something different will lead you to goodness you might not even be able to imagine yet.

If you're ready to say YES to your pattern design curiosity and dreams, grab my hand and come join me in Pattern Camp!

I'll make this process WAY easier and faster to learn than it would be on your own. Promise.

Enrollment is open now and only until Friday, August 2nd.

Now's the time, my friend!
I can't wait to see you on the inside. :)

From past students:

"This class is very helpful to learn pattern design with Illustrator because Jessica shows you step by step and in depth how to create a pattern. Thanks a lot for these amazing instructions, Jessica, you're a great teacher!" – Christine A
"I have a little experience with Illustrator. But it's been very difficult and slow learning. Jessica made this sooo easy to understand, and implement. She did such a good job of explaining the steps and why you are doing what you are doing." – Rachelle R
"Exactly the class I was looking for, the presentation is so clear and made a daunting process easily understandable. Loved Jessica's enthusiasm and passion and will definitely be back for more Pattern Camp :) " – Jill P

Hi Reader, Happy September! My GOSH was August a wild and chaotic bonanza of experiences in my world! I taught Pattern Camp, had a birthday (and a birthday sale!), camped at the epically beautiful Crater Lake, my son started 3rd grade, and I spent this past weekend in Colorado with my kids where we went to a college football game, did a super hard hike, spent a lot of time with my whole family, and I even got to go see my very favorite musician, Gregory Alan Isakov, at Red Rocks (with seats...

Enrollment for Pattern Camp is OPEN!Doors close on August 2nd. Hi Reader, Pattern Camp is starting in just 8 days! When I was just getting started as a pattern designer many years ago, I exhibited at a trade show called Surtex in New York City. One of my most vivid memories is of an art student who walked into my booth, already jaded and full of doubt, and asked me if I really thought I could make it as a successful pattern designer in a world that was already so saturated with pattern...

Hi Reader, I want to tell you a story about how I went from someone who barely knew how to use a computer and knew nothing about digital art-making to someone who's created hundreds of pattern designs and has artwork on products worldwide. I first encountered surface pattern design back in 2005 or so, when design blogs were a new, exciting, and very inspiring part of the internet. I saw people licensing artwork to places like Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, and a lightbulb of knowing...
